A Maryland nonprofit organization that provides STEM education opportunities for underserved communities has launched learning spaces made of shipping containers. Learning Undefeated of Gaithersburg calls its three new science, technology, engineering and math learning spaces Drop Anywhere Labs.

The nonprofit plans to ship the new labs, furnished with laboratory equipment, to middle and high schools in Maryland and Texas starting in the fall. More than $2.45 million was contributed for the labs by AstraZeneca, the State of Maryland, Rebuild Texas Fund, the Qatar Harvey Fund, the State of Texas, and the Toyota USA Foundation.

Brian Gaines, CEO of Learning Undefeated, said the new labs will help Learning Undefeated serve more than 80,000 students each year and can also be used to help schools regain normalcy after a natural disaster.
