About the Curriculum

Learning Undefeated and the Port of Corpus Christi have teamed up to deliver unforgettable STEM experiences to schools in Nueces and San Patricio Counties!

The PORT-Able Learning Lab is a mobile, immersive learning environment housed in a shipping container, bringing STEM to your school’s doorstep. Students explore science, technology, engineering, and math through immersive reality, interactive games, and collaborative challenges.

What’s Inside:

  • High School: Step into the role of a port intern, building a dock while balancing budget, materials, and environmental impact. Extend the experience in class with our high school Engineering Design Challenge!
  • Elementary & Middle School: Go on a STEM adventure to learn about the Port’s role in our economy and environment through puzzles, trivia, and augmented reality, or check out our Breakout Box: Body Systems mission, where students explore the cardiovascular system and blood glucose management.

New this year: All new engineering design challenges for each grade level!

Point of Contact & Reminders

Learning Undefeated educators will email the school’s main contact to begin planning the visit. Together, we’ll schedule a pre-visit meeting to discuss logistics, curriculum, and other important details. Teachers are expected to maintain timely communication with our team to ensure we can deliver the best possible experience for your students. Failure to do so may result in your visit week being reassigned to another school.

Pre-Visit: 4 Weeks Out

Pre-visits will be conducted either in-person or virtually and are scheduled four weeks prior to the school’s visit. During this pre-visit, the following information will be discussed:

  • Parking the mobile lab
  • Creating a Schedule
  • Curriculum
  • What to expect during a visit

All participating teachers should be present at the pre-visit; however, if not possible, the primary contact will distribute all necessary information.

DURING Your MX Lab Visit

Monday:
Monday is used to set up the lab and gather all necessary supplies and materials. This day is dedicated to preparing for both the in-classroom activities and ensuring the lab is fully ready for your students’ visits.

Tuesday–Thursday:
These three days will serve as full instructional days for our staff. These days are available for running classroom activities and hosting students in our lab. Teachers will collaborate with our team to determine the best daily schedule based on school size, class periods, and the length of each visit.

Friday:
To allow our team time to repack the lab and prepare for the next visit, all classroom activities and lab experiences will conclude by 1:00 PM on Fridays.

Exceptions may apply if the lab is being used for a special event or if the school has a holiday during the scheduled visit. Any adjustments will be discussed and finalized during the pre-visit planning meeting between the school’s main contact and Learning Undefeated staff.

Expectations During the Visit

Classroom Activities: Learning Undefeated staff will lead all classroom activities directly in your classrooms. For activities that require them, digital copies of lab handouts will be emailed to teachers ahead of the visit. Teachers are responsible for printing and distributing handouts to students. All other necessary materials will be provided by Learning Undefeated.

A teacher or staff member should remain in the classroom as the Learning Undefeated team is conducting the activity.

Lab Experience: During the on-board lab experience, students should be escorted by school staff to the lab at their scheduled time. Please ensure students leave backpacks and other personal items in the classroom before entering the lab.

For student safety, a certified school staff member must be present at all times while students are on board. This individual does not have to be the classroom teacher but must be approved by the school.

AFTER Your MX Lab Visit

Following your visit, a Learning Undefeated staff member will email a follow-up message to all participating teachers. This message will include a required teacher survey, which helps us evaluate the program and improve future experiences. We kindly ask that all participating educators complete the survey.
