On October 15, Learning Undefeated’s longtime partner AstraZeneca celebrated the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Coppell, Texas, doubling production capacity for its kidney disease treatment Lokelma and reinforcing its long-term commitment to U.S. healthcare innovation.

The newly expanded facility is part of AstraZeneca’s $50 billion investment in U.S. R&D and manufacturing over the next five years, announced in July 2025. The Coppell site—operating for more than a decade—serves as the sole global manufacturing hub for Lokelma, supplying more than 50 countries. The facility now employs more than 250 people, and the expansion is expected to strengthen both local workforce opportunities and global supply reliability.

During the ribbon-cutting event, attendees also experienced Learning Undefeated’s newest mobile STEM laboratory, the Breakout Box: Manufacturing Mission. Since January 2025, this hands-on lab has reached over 10,000 students across Texas, sparking interest in high-demand STEM and manufacturing careers such as robotics, welding, and data analytics.

Learning Undefeated has partnered with AstraZeneca (and originally MedImmune) for nearly two decades, bringing mobile STEM education to communities across Maryland and Delaware. Together, we’ve served more than 100,000 students and engaged hundreds of AstraZeneca employees as local volunteers where they live and work. AstraZeneca has also supported the build-out of several of our mobile labs, including the Mobile eXploration Lab (MXLab) and the Breakout Box: Body Systems Mission aboard the Drop Anywhere Lab.

AstraZeneca also played a pivotal role in our Texas expansion in 2018, when our mobile lab program brought STEM education to communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Since then, we’ve exponentially expanded our programming in Texas through our statewide program with the Texas Education Agency, BioPath@TMCa program designed to prepare students for careers in biomanufacturing and biotechnology, and now the Manufacture Your Path program.

AstraZeneca’s expansion in Texas represents both a global healthcare priority—ensuring reliable access to Lokelma—and a local investment in economic growth and STEM education. Learning Undefeated is proud to celebrate this milestone alongside AstraZeneca and looks forward to continuing our collaboration to inspire the next generation of innovators in Texas and beyond.
