For nearly 20 years, Learning Undefeated has been a trailblazer in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. Our programs focus specifically on serving students, schools and communities typically underrepresented in STEM fields, providing equal access to the scientific tools and techniques that students need to succeed. Learning Undefeated is committed to providing access to low-income students by serving schools where a majority of students are eligible for the Free and Reduced Meals program (FARM).

Learning Undefeated’s staff consists of talented and experienced educators and scientists who share a common goal of improving science education and creating a more accessible, educational experience. Our curriculum emphasize STEM careers, increasing student confidence in STEM subjects and providing them with role models in STEM fields.

Mobile STEM Education

Our flagship education offering is our mobile laboratory program, three vehicles that deliver authentic, real-world scientific experiences for middle and high school students right in the school parking lot. Whether onboard the country’s largest mobile STEM education lab, a mobile wet lab, or a high-tech bus, Learning Undefeated sparks interest in STEM subjects and careers for more than 15,000 students per year.

Since 2003, Learning Undefeated has served more than 150,000 Maryland high school students with nearly 500 school visits in every school district in the state. Learning Undefeated currently operates three mobile laboratory programs: the Mobile eXploration Lab, the Verizon Innovative Learning explorer lab, and MdBioLab.

To advance the field of mobile laboratory education, Learning Undefeated helped found the Mobile Laboratory Coalition (MLC) in 2005 and remains actively involved on the organization’s board of directors. The MLC assists and advises developing mobile laboratory programs, ensuring they provide equal opportunities for all students through a common vision for STEM education.

Afterschool and Summer Programs

Advancing Tomorrow’s Leaders in STEM (ATLAS) is Learning Undefeated’s college and career readiness symposium, providing a space for students typically underrepresented STEM to connect with business leaders, colleges, government, and potential employers. ATLAS plays an important role in increasing awareness of STEM to promote rewarding and high paying jobs within Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region. Ninety-four percent of ATLAS participants report knowing more about STEM career options and gaining confidence when talking to professionals.

Learning Undefeated’s Young Science Explorers Program (YSEP) is a 30-hour weeklong summer curriculum, serving rising 7th and 8th grade with hands-on laboratory activities and company visits that bring STEM careers to life. Twenty-seven percent of YSEP’s participants report an increase in content knowledge and measurable gains in attitude and interest in science as a career.
