In November 2017 Learning Undefeated drove its mobile laboratory down to the Coastal Bend area of Texas for a limited engagement pilot, Learning Undefeated: A Disaster Recovery Program. After hearing about the damage that hit southeast Texas as a result of Hurricane Harvey, we knew what we had to do. The plan was simple: provide a fun and engaging learning environment for students affected.
In just four days of being in the area, Learning Undefeated staff inspired every student in the Port Aransas School District with hands-on activities, demonstrations, positivity, and a unique relief from the devastation around them. Homes are destroyed, businesses are closed, and most only have one certainty- that it is going to be a long time until things return to the way it was before Harvey. Through all of that, their smiles and warmth never stopped.
In Phase 1, Learning Undefeated raised enough money for a two-week engagement and the experience has been more than we could have asked for. Many students in these areas need lab time to receive their science credit and the schools that we are serving do not currently have access to them.
We want to continue to give these students a chance to get their labs done and refocus from rebuilding. We are bringing more than fifteen years’ experience in mobile education to Texas. Learning Undefeated staff has even developed activities to meet teacher requests because the success of this project is listening to the schools that we are visiting.
We remain grateful to the founding supporters of this project- AstraZeneca MedImmune, CNSI, Northrop Grumman, and VWR. Without them, this would have just continued to be a dream. We have accomplished so much, but now we look to Phase 2 and we look to you. Your contribution would make a significant difference in our ability to bring this timely and critical resource for even more visits. Please help to make this possible with your contribution.

We’ve had a lot of donations – monetary and material donations – but to have a donation where our students are receiving instruction from a 21st century science lab is amazing. – Jim Potts, Principal, Port Aransas High School
